- Press “Download spreadsheet (.csv)”. The file saves to your downloads folder.
- Double-click the file. Excel opens it as a normal worksheet — one row per category, one column per field.
- Optional: save it as .xlsx from Excel if you want to add formatting or formulas that persist.
What you get
Four columns — the category, the group it belongs to (needs, wants or savings), the amount you planned, and what share of your take-home pay that is. Income sits at the top; the total allocated and what is left over sit at the bottom. Nothing is locked, so rename or delete anything once it is yours.

Why is the download a CSV rather than an .xlsx file?
CSV opens natively in Excel, Numbers, LibreOffice and Google Sheets without a compatibility warning, and it contains no macros — so nothing is blocked by security settings. Once it is open in Excel you can save it as .xlsx if you want formatting or formulas to persist.
Can I use this as a personal budget template in Excel?
Yes — that is what it is built for. The categories cover a typical personal month (housing, groceries, transport, subscriptions, savings), and you can rename, add or delete any of them before downloading.
Will the totals recalculate in Excel?
The downloaded file contains values, not formulas, so the totals are correct at the moment you download them. If you want them to recalculate as you edit, select the Planned column in Excel and use AutoSum — it takes one click.
